Bacterial N-linked glycosylation
Despite the hundreds of eubacterial genomes now available, there are few sequenced bacterial genomes that contain clear homologues of the originally discovered CjPglB. The pathway for synthesis of the novel bacterial glycan transferred by PglB has been determined (Figure) (Kelly et al., 2006). There are six GTs in this pathway including PglB (Pgls A, C, I, H & J) and the novel flippase PglK. Understanding these proteins structurally and biochemically is a goal for our group.
